Eileen Cooper RA
Eileen Cooper is one of only eighty members of the Royal Academy of Arts and the first female Keeper of the Royal Academy. Her works are instantly recognisable and span a multitude of disciplines, from painting in oil and watercolour to printmaking through lino and woodcut. A highly successful solo exhibition was held at the Royal Academy of Arts in 2015, coinciding with the publication of Martin Gayford’s book, ‘Between the Lines’, covering four decades of her work. She received an OBE for services to art in 2016.
‘Lots of people's lives are thrown together in my pictures, but there is also a strong sense of separateness. I find it fascinating that, in the busy lives that everyone leads, people have a sense of their own time, their own moments of reverie. ’
